SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

In the last 20 year the Castro Valley Women's Club has donated over $200,000 in financial and volunteer help to local worthwhile causes. Our largest support has been to education by awarding yearly scholarships to Castro Valley High School seniors.  The Club has also supported leadership seminars for students and funded civic trips through Close Up.  Our donations to Building Futures, Family Emergency Shelter Coalition and Ruby's Place helped women and children find safety, housing and hope. Financial and volunteer help to SOS/Meals on Wheels and Spectrum Community Services assists seniors in their effort to live independently by helping with nutrition, fitness and energy efficiency.  Operation Dignity donations serve homeless veterans and their families. while aid to George Mark House provides medical and psychosocial services to children facing life-limiting illness.

In 2019 CVWC learned about and now also supports the Mosaic Project.  Their Outdoor Project is on Cull Canyon and brings together 4th and 5th grade classes from markedly different communities for a profound weeklong experience in nature.  Their evidence-based, social-emotional learning curriculum is designed to address issues of difference, build self-esteem, and inspire inclusion.

Castro Valley Women's Club Scholarship Awards

The Castro Valley Women’s Club has been fortunate to be able to award scholarships every year since our inception 75 years ago.  As always, this year the Woman’s Club was reminded what remarkable students we have in our community. Each spring as we review the students who have applied for our scholarships, we find it quite the task to narrow our picks to only three students and this year was no different. While so many of our applicants are intelligent, driven and deserving, the three young women we were able to honor in 2022 also have shown great levels of passion that promise to lead them down intriguing and noble paths.
